Thoughts About God's Amazing Grace

Grace Hymns

Grace has been a major theme of the Christian Church for centuries. Christians have lived it, preached it, taught it, shared it, written it and sung it. Here are dozens of hymns about the Grace of God from the past few centuries. We pray the words will encourage and lift you up as you “look up” to see Jesus, The Author of Grace.

“And of His fullness we have all received, and grace for grace. For the law was given through Moses, but grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.” John 1:16-17

Amazing Grace

“Amazing Grace how sweet the sound that saved a wretch like me! I once was lost, but now I’m found, was blind, but now I see. Twas grace that taught my heart to fear, andgrace my fears relieved; How precious did that grace appear, the hour I first believed. Thru many dangers, toils and snares, I have already come; Tis grace that brought me safe thus far, and grace will lead me home. When we’ve been there ten thousand years, bright shining as the sun; We’ve no less days to sing God’s praise, than when we first begun.”

Newton & Walker

Grace for Every Need

“There is joy divine that is ever mine since the Lord has forgiven me; and I work and sing for my blessed King, by His grace I have been made free. He will ever keep with the tempests sweep, And hath grace for each trying hour; So I go in love to this Friend above, Ever trusting His grace and pow’r. O this wondrous grace is for all the race, It is boundless and full and free; And I trust and cling to my blessed King Who by grace now is keeping me. There is grace for each need, Grace full, grace free, Saving grace yes, indeed, Flowing from the throne above; Grace to hide all my sin, All, yes, grace free, Pardon all may win, Grace in His perfect love.”

J.M. Henson & Whitworth

Saved By Grace

“Some day the silver cord will break, and I no more as now shall sing; But, O the joy when I shall wake within the palace of the King! And I shall see Him face to face, and tell the story, Saved by grace; and I shall see Him face to face, And tell the story, Saved by grace.”

Crosby & Stebbins

More About Jesus

“More about Jesus I would know, more of His grace to others show; More of His saving fullness see, more of His love, who died for me. More, more about Jesus, More, more about Jesus; More of His saving fullness see, more of His love, who died for me.”

Hewitt & Sweney

His Blood is on My Soul

“I am determined by His grace to reach bright heaven’s goal, and reign with Jesus on His throne, His blood is on my soul. His blood is on my soul, His blood is on my soul; I rest securely in His hand, His blood is on my soul.”

Lord Lead Me On

“When the way seems dark and long, as I pass amid the throng, Hold to my hand, dear Lord I pray; Give me grace to shout and shine, ever in the light divine, Lord lead me on from day to day. Lord lead me on, from day to day, I want to walk the holy way; Tho friends forsake, me all alone, I ask Thee Lord to lead me on.”

I’m Going That Way

“I’ve heard of a land of joy and peace and wonderful light, a beautiful place of mansions fair and skies ever bright, Where all who believe the Savior dear, forever shall stay, and having been saved by grace divine, I’m going that way. I’m going that way; I’m going that way, and Jesus the Savior I adore is with me each day; I’m clinging to Him, and never to stray, Yes, singing His praises all day long, I’m going that way.”

Rowe & Register

The Lord Is With Me

“I live in a land of sorrow while toiling in this earthly race, True joy is awaiting yonder prepared for all the saved by grace; The Savior who bought my pardon has gone those mansions to prepare, some happy day He will call me the glory of that home to share. I know the Lord is with me each moment of the day, I know that He will lead me, Tho dark may be the way; I know that in each trial, He travels on before, And in His love there’s safety, I could not ask for more.”

Presley & Rippetoe

Sweet Hour of Prayer

“Sweet hour of prayer! sweet hour of prayer! That calls me from a world of care, And bids me, at my Father’s throne, Make all my wants and wishes known; In seasons of distress and grief, my soul has often found relief. Sweet hour of prayer! sweet hour of prayer! Thy wings shall my petition bear, To Him whose truth and righteousness, engage the waiting souls to bless; And since He bids me seek His face, believe His word and trust His grace.”

Walford & Bradbury

My Faith Looks Up to Thee

“My faith looks up to Thee, Thou Lamb of Calvary, Savior divine; Now hear me while I pray, Take all my sins away; O let me from this day be wholly Thine! May Thy rich grace impart Strength to my fainting heart, My zeal inspire; As Thou hast died for me, O may my love to Thee, Pure, warm and changeless be, A living fire!”

Palmer & Mason

Wonderful Grace of Jesus

“Wonderful grace of Jesus, Greater than all my sin; How shall my tongue describe it, Where shall its praise begin? Taking away my burden, Setting my spirit free; For the wonderful grace of Jesus reaches me. Wonderful grace of Jesus, Reaching to all the lost; By it I have been pardoned, Saved to the uttermost, Chains have been torn asunder, Giving me liberty; For the wonderful grace of Jesus reaches me. Wonderful grace of Jesus, Reaching the most defiled, By its transforming power, Making him God’s dear child, Purchasing peace and heaven, For all eternity; And the wonderful grace of Jesus reaches me. Wonderful the matchless grace of Jesus, Deeper than the mighty rolling sea, Higher than the mountain, sparkling like a fountain, All sufficient grace for even me, Broader than the scope of my transgressions, Greater far than all my sin and shame, O magnify the precious name of Jesus, Praise His name!”

Jesus, Lover of My Soul

“Plent’ous grace with Thee is found, Grace to cover all my sin; Let the healing streams abound, Make and keep me pure within; Thou of life the fountain art, Freely let me take of Thee; Spring Thou up within my heart, Rise to all eternity.”

Wesley & Marsh

Abide With Me

“I need Thy presence ev’ry passing hour, What but Thy grace can foil the tempter’s pow’r? Who, like Thyself, my guide and stay can be? Thru cloud and sunshine, O abide with me!”

Lyte & Monk

We’ll Soon Be Done With Troubles and Trials

“I shall behold His blessed face, I shall feel His matchless grace, We’ll soon be done with troubles and trials; O what peace and joy sublime in that home of love divine, Sit down beside my Jesus, sit down and rest a little while, We’ll soon be done with troubles and trials, Yes, in that home on the other side, Shake glad hands with the elders, tell my kindred good morning, Sit down beside my Jesus, gonna sit down and rest a li’l while. Gonna sit down and rest a li’l while.”

I’m Free Again

“Praise God I’m free, Free from ev’ry chain of sin, I’ve been set free by the grace of God; I’m free, with a settled peace within, No more the paths of sin I trod, I’m free, Heaven’s gates I’ll enter in, The blood has cleansed ev’ry sinful stain; I’m free, Praise the living God, I’m free again, I’m free again.”

Gettin’ Ready to Leave This World

“Trusting in the riches of His saving grace, In each earthly trial I His love can trace; Sure that up in heaven I shall find a place, I’m a gettin’ ready to leave this world. Gettin’ ready to leave this world, Gettin’ ready for the gates of pearl; Keeping watching, both day and night, Gettin’ ready to leave this world.”

My Lord Will Care for Me

“I have assurance sweet, a solace most complete, And I go onward singing His praise; My Lord is at my side as my unfailing guide, And He will keep me all of my days. He tells me that He’ll care for me, No matter what may come along, He gives me grace so rich and free, Within my heart He keeps a song; His promise sweet still cheers me on, And safe with Him my soul will be, My sinful days are ever gone, My blessed Lord will care for me.”

Henson & Whitworth

Jesus Paid It All

“For nothing good have I Whereby Thy grace to claim; I’ll wash my garment white in the blood of Calv’ry’s Lamb. Jesus paid it all, All to Him I owe; Sin had left a crimson stain; He washed it white as snow.”

Hall & Grape

He Keeps Me Singing

“Feasting on the riches of His grace, Resting ‘neath His shelt’ring wing, Always looking on His smiling face, That is why I shout and sing. Jesus, Jesus, Jesus, sweetest name I know, Fills my ev’ry longing, Keeps me signing as I go.”

I’ll Be Satisfied

“When my soul is singing in that promised land above, I’ll be satisfied; Praising Christ the Savior for redeeming grace and love, I’ll be satisfied. I’ll be satisfied, satisfied, I’ll be satisfied, satisfied; When my soul is resting in the presence of the Lord, I’ll be satisfied.”

Pannell & Pannell

At Calvary

“O the love that drew salvation’s plan! O the grace that brought it down to man! O the mighty gulf that God did span at Calvary! Mercy there was great, and grace was free; Pardon there was multiplied to me; There my burdened soul found libery at Calvary.”

Newell & Towner

My Jesus, I Love Thee

Press Along to Glory-Land

“O ransomed souls, with joyous song, Press along to glory-land; Extolling grace that saves the race, Press along to glory-land. Press along, glad soul, press along, Giving out the message grand; Letting love, God’s love, be your song, Press along to glory-land.”

Rowe & Dean

A New Name In Glory

“In the book ’tis written, ‘Saved by grace;’ O the joy that came to my soul! Now I am forgiven, and I know, By the blood I am made whole. There’s a new name written down in glory, And it’s mine, O yes, it’s mine! And the white-robed angels sing the story, ‘A sinner has come home;’ For there’s a new name written down in glory, And it’s mine, O yes, it’s mine! With my sins forgiven I am bound for heaven, Never more to roam.”

My Song of Praise

“With lovelight aglow, wherever I go, I’ll sing of His saving grace (saving grace); When earthlife is o’er, then, forever more, I’ll look on His smiling face. All glory to Him I bring! With gladness to Him I cling, With this wonderful song I sing.”

Mansions In Heaven

“Those mansions above, I’ll see them some day, If found in the soul-saving grace; I’m looking for one at the end of the way, When I’ll see the Builder and talk face to face. I am going over there, To a mansion bright and fair; With my Savior I’ll be there, And His glory I will share.”

Leave Your Sorrows and Come Along

“Nothing could cause us to turn back in the race, Because we’re bound for regions of everlasting song and story, Jesus abundantly supplies us with grace, Leave your sorrows, come and go along. Why should we be sad, children of God and sad? O let us lift our grateful voices in glad jubilee, O be glad for things are not so bad, leave your sorrows, come along and go with me.”

It is joy unspeakable and full of glory, Full of glory, full of glory; It is joy unspeakable and full of glory, Oh, the half has never yet been told.”

Are You Washed in the Blood?

“Have you been to Jesus for the cleansing pow’r? Are you washed in the blood of the Lamb? Are you fully trusting in His grace this hour? Are you washed in the blood of the Lamb? Are you washed in the blood; In the soul-cleansing blood of the Lamb? Are your garments spotless? are they white as snow? Are you washed in the blood of the Lamb?

Everybody Will Be Happy Over There

“There we’ll meet the One who saved us and who kept us by His grace, and who bro’t us to that land so bright and fair; We will praise His name forever as we look upon His face. Ev’rybody will be happy over there. Ev’rybody will be happy over there, We will shout and sing His praise; Ev’rybody will be happy over there.”

He Knows How

“Trials are besetting me, but never I repine, Grace to overcome them all from day to day is mine; Just the blessings that I need He always will allow; Jesus keeps me happy, for He knows how, He knows how, yes, He knows how; Heav’nly joys I’m having here and now! All the way to glory, I shall tell my story, Jesus keeps me happy, for He knows how.”

The Love of God

“When hoary time shall pass away, and earthly thrones and kingdoms fall; When men who here refuse to pray, On rocks and hills and mountains call; God’s love, so sure, shall still endure, all measureless and strong; Redeeming grace to Adam’s race, The saints’ and angels’ song. O love of God, how rich and pure! How measureless and strong! It shall forevermore endure, The saints’ and angels’ song.”

Christ Receiveth Sinful Men

What a Happy Time

  1. Hi Mark, Mike McGlathery here. I looked through the list of songs with interest and joy in remembering many of the words of grace in them. I looked for “No Other Plea” without finding it. I wonder if I am just unaware of some reason that it is not appropriate, or is it just that there is not room for every song. Either way, I like the list.

    1. Hi, Mike! No Other Plea is a wonderful song. I didn’t include it in the Grace Hymns compilation because the verses and chorus I’ve seen didn’t have the word “grace” in them. Do you know of a version with “grace” included in a verse?

Thanks for your comments! So glad to hear from you.

  2. I’m wracking my brain to think of a hymn that the chorus begins with “something grace”. It’s not amazing grace. The last verse talks about being in heaven. 🤦‍♀️

The chorus notes get quite high if that helps.
