Will Jesus Christ return to the earth in the year 2030?

Maybe

Maybe not

He may come sooner. He may come later.

The disciples of Jesus asked Him multiple times when He would set up His earthly Kingdom. Jesus did not give them a date, but did give them important work to accomplish before His return –

“And He said to them, ‘It is not for you to know times or seasons which the Father has put in His own authority. But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”

Acts 1:7-8

As we’ve said in previous parts of this series, Christians need to keep eternity in view and compare everything going on in our world with that eternal perspective. God is Sovereign. He is on His Throne ruling His universe according to His perfect plan.

With that said, let’s first look at man’s plan, then we’ll compare it to God’s plan.

Man’s Plan

We are less than ten years away from commemorating the 2,000th anniversary of Jesus’ death, resurrection and return to Heaven. As we pointed out in the last part of our series, global leaders have identified the year 2030 as key to the future of the world. I find that very interesting.

Heard these phrases recently?

  • The Great Reset
  • Build Back Better

They both refer to plans to ‘improve’ life for people around the world. Many of the same leaders talking about these ideals are the same people who see 2030 as key to the success of those plans.

“Echoing human security principles, the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development emphasizes a “world free of poverty, hunger, disease and want … free of fear and violence … with equitable and universal access to quality education, health care and social protection … to safe drinking water and sanitation … where food is sufficient, safe, affordable and nutritious … where habits are safe, resilient and sustainable … and where there is universal access to affordable, reliable and sustainable energy. It calls for development strategies that result in resilient societies where people are safe from chronic threats such as abject poverty, hunger, disease, violence and repression, and protected from sudden and hurtful disruptions in their daily lives.”

AGENDA 2030, United Nations Trust Fund For Human Security

Disease is a primary driver for both the ‘great reset’ and ‘build back better’ campaigns. Here is some of what leaders of the United Nations and World Economic Forum believe about the part Covid-19 is playing in both –

“The United Nations is devising a blueprint for a healthier planet and society that leaves no one behind.  Actions are being taken across the United Nations system to ensure a more resilient future. [UN] Secretary-General Guterres proposed six climate-related actions to shape the recovery:

First, the huge amounts of money to be spent on recovery from the coronavirus must deliver new jobs and businesses through a clean, green transition.

Second, where taxpayers’ money is used to rescue businesses, it must be tied to achieving green jobs and sustainable growth.

Third, fiscal firepower must drive a shift from the grey to green economy, empowering societies and people to be more resilient.

Fourth, public funds should be used to invest in the future, not the past, and flow to sustainable sectors and projects that help the environment and the climate.  Fossil fuel subsidies must end, and polluters must start paying for their pollution.

Fifth, climate risks and opportunities must be incorporated into the financial system as well as all aspects of public policy making and infrastructure.

Sixth, all need to work together as an international community.”

Climate Change and COVID-19: UN urges nations to ‘build back better’, United Nations

“The COVID-19 coronavirus crisis has wrought economic disruption on a monumental scale, contributing to a dangerous and volatile global upheaval – politically, socially and geopolitically – while raising deep concerns about the environment and the extending reach of technology into our lives. World Economic Forum Founder and Executive Chairman Klaus Schwab and Thierry Malleret, Co-Founder of Monthly Barometer, explore these themes in their new book, COVID-19: The Great Reset. The book’s main objective is to help us understand what’s coming: it has three main chapters, offering a panoramic overview of the future landscape. The first assesses what the impact of the pandemic will be on five key macro categories: the economic, societal, geopolitical, environmental and technological factors. The second considers the effects in micro terms, on specific industries and companies. The third hypothesizes about the nature of the possible consequences at the individual level.”

COVID-19: The Great Reset, World Economic Forum

“We have looked at ways to “build back better” and it’s very clear that investing in greener economies is going to be a huge part of recovery efforts. Whether that’s cleaner energy, greening how our cities grow in the future, or creating more environmentally sustainable transport and mobility systems, sustainability is going to be a necessary part of building a better future.

Many economies have in the past looked at redefining industrial policy and building more sustainable infrastructure as an impetus for more sustainable growth. And we will certainly need a coordinated new stimulus and approach in these areas, but restarting growth is not necessarily limited to that side of things.

It has become clear during this pandemic there are other critical systems that have been underfunded or overlooked. Areas like healthcare and schools have not received adequate support, or job quality has not been as good as it should have been.

Investing in health, education, care and public services can both improve the resilience of our societies and prevent them from being so exposed to future shocks and will create a lot of jobs in the coming years.”

‘Building back better’ – here’s how we can navigate the risks we face after COVID-19, World Economic Forum

World Economic Forum Founder and Executive Chairman Klaus Schwab presented Five Priorities for the Great Reset based on the world’s experience with Covid-19 in 2020. He called it The Great Reset: Resetting The World:

  1. Redefine our social contract to integrate more inclusion and our responsibility to the next generation .. close the gap between industrialized and emerging countries
  2. Green Economy global focus
  3. Use technology to address challenges and create ethical, human-oriented principles of those technologies
  4. Move from Shareholder Capitalism to Stakeholder Capitalism
  5. Stronger global cooperation .. Covid has shown that we are globally interdependent

World Economic Forum Predictions for the world in 2030

Look at the first two predictions from the World Economic Forum’s list –

  1. You will own nothing and you’ll be happy .. Whatever you want you’ll rent and it’ll be delivered by drone
  2. The US won’t be the world’s leading superpower .. A handful of countries will dominate

How could all of that possibly happen by the year 2030? That’s only nine years from now, certainly not enough time to make those kinds of major changes to the world’s governmental and economic systems.

We don’t have to look any further than last year – 2020 – for the answer. How fast did the world shut down because of Covid-19? Years? Months? No. It took only weeks.

Let’s ask the question again. How could all of the UN and World Economic Forum predictions possibly happen by the year 2030? Easy. We’ve already seen how quickly billions of people will change their lives and lifestyles and give up their freedoms when they believe they might die.

Fear is one big reason why people will change their lives dramatically in just days or weeks. Anything else?

Another reason is financial. Remember the old saying about the ‘golden rule’? “He who owns the gold, rules.”

People need money to buy things they need to live. Where will the money come from in a ‘new normal’ economy if people own nothing and have to rent everything? Has anyone thought about how finances might work in that vision for 2030? We turn again to the World Economic Forum. Click on the video below to watch.

World Economic Forum Global Financial and Monetary Systems in 2030

The movement toward a new world ‘financial normal’ is already underway. In fact, it’s been underway for years. The United Nations, World Economic Forum and other global organizations have a record of years-long planning toward a great ‘financial reset’ that can be confirmed quickly and easily through basic online research.

One aspect of the Great Financial Reset begins this month (January 2021) in Davos, Switzerland. The Twin Summit was announced by the Prince of Wales and Klaus Schwab last summer. The purpose is to connect “key global governmental and business leaders in Davos with a global multistakeholder network in 400 cities around the world for a forward-oriented dialogue driven by the younger generation.” (Known as the Global Shapers Community.) The theory is that “COVID-19 has accelerated our transition into the age of the Fourth Industrial Revolution.” (The Great Reset: A Unique Twin Summit to Begin 2021)

“We only have one planet and we know that climate change could be the next global disaster with even more dramatic consequences for humankind. We have to decarbonize the economy in the short window still remaining and bring our thinking and behaviour once more into harmony with nature … The global health crisis has laid bare the unsustainability of our old system in terms of social cohesion, the lack of equal opportunities and inclusiveness. Nor can we turn our backs on the evils of racism and discrimination. We need to build into this new social contract our intergenerational responsibility to ensure that we live up to the expectations of young people.”

Klaus Schwab, Founder and Executive Chairman of the World Economic Forum

“In order to secure our future and to prosper, we need to evolve our economic model and put people and planet at the heart of global value creation. If there is one critical lesson to learn from this crisis, it is that we need to put nature at the heart of how we operate. We simply can’t waste more time.”

HRH The Prince of Wales

“The Great Reset is a welcome recognition that this human tragedy must be a wake-up call. We must build more equal, inclusive and sustainable economies and societies that are more resilient in the face of pandemics, climate change and the many other global changes we face.”

António Guterres, Secretary-General, United Nations, New York

Another way of discovering what’s going to happen in our world is to read the Bible.

God’s Plan

Could it be that God is up to something while world leaders plan for a ‘great reset’ to ‘build back better’ on earth?

Let’s look at something a well-known national leader wrote 3,000 years ago. Sounds a lot like what’s going on in our world today.

“Why do the nations rage, And the people plot a vain thing? The kings of the earth set themselves, And the rulers take counsel together, Against the Lord and against His Anointed, saying, ‘Let us break Their bonds in pieces And cast away Their cords from us.’ He who sits in the heavens shall laugh; The Lord shall hold them in derision. Then He shall speak to them in His wrath, And distress them in His deep displeasure: ‘Yet I have set My King On My holy hill of Zion.”

Psalm 2:1-6

The reference to “My King On My holy hill of Zion” is about the return of Jesus Christ from Heaven to reign on the earth. That’s always been God’s plan. Jesus Christ is going to rule the earth from the city of Jerusalem. The nations can rage, plot and take counsel together, but they can’t hold back the return of the Son of God to reign as Supreme Ruler. The return of Jesus Christ to establish His Kingdom on earth is God’s GREAT RESET and Jesus will certainly BUILD BACK BETTER. It will not be what the nations of the world want or expect. Jesus will return suddenly and with great power to defeat, judge and rule the nations as King of the world.

“Now out of His mouth goes a sharp sword, that with it He should strike the nations. And He Himself will rule them with a rod of iron. He Himself treads the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God. And He has on His robe and on His thigh a name written: KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS.”

Revelation 19:15-16

“When the Son of Man comes in His glory, and all the holy angels with Him, then He will sit on the throne of His glory. All the nations will be gathered before Him, and He will separate them one from another, as a shepherd divides his sheep from the goats.”

Matthew 25:31-32

So, given man’s plans and God’s plans, how should Christians live out their lives until Jesus returns? The answer is quite simple. Trust and obey. Trust God. Obey God. The world’s so-called ‘great reset’ is nothing compared to the RESET God has planned for the planet. As for ‘build back better,’ the world can’t build anything to compare with what God is building. Jesus is ‘building’ His Church and ‘preparing a place’ for us that will outshine anything mere mortals can conceive or construct.

The words of Joshua ring through my mind as I write this –

“… choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve…as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.”

Joshua 24:15

Given what we know about the world and what we know about God, the choice for Christians seems simple enough. We need to be busy serving the Lord and His plans.

“And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, ‘All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”

Matthew 28:18-20

“And behold, I am coming quickly, and My reward is with Me, to give to every one according to his work. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End, the First and the Last.”
